Gumroad alternatives

Stay on Gumroad if you want it to handle sales tax and you sell few, small items. Look at Plandalf if your sales are large enough that a percentage fee costs more than a flat $49 a month, and you want to design the checkout yourself and keep your own Stripe or PayPal account.

When a percentage fee costs more than $49

Gumroad's pricing page lists 10% + $0.50 per direct sale and no monthly fee; its fee help article may describe lower rates at high monthly volume, which these figures do not account for. Plandalf is $49 a month with no percentage of sales. On the plan and platform fee alone, the two cost the same when Gumroad's fee reaches $49. At an average sale of $10 that is about 33 sales a month ($330 in sales). At $30 it is 14 sales ($420). At $100 it is 5 sales ($500). Below that, Gumroad costs less on these lines; above it, the flat fee costs less. The comparison covers platform fees at the headline rate only. It leaves out payment processing and any volume discount, so check Gumroad's fee help article against your own numbers (see the table below).

Who should stay on Gumroad

Stay if you sell a handful of items a month, if the 10% + $0.50 is below $49 for you, or if you want the platform to handle sales tax. Gumroad's pricing page says it became merchant of record on 2025-01-01 and handles sales tax collection and remittance worldwide. Plandalf does not do this. It connects to your own Stripe or PayPal account, those providers process the payments, and tax stays your responsibility or your tax tool's. If that matters more to you than the fee, stay.

Who should move to Plandalf

Move if your monthly sales are past the break-even above, or if you want a checkout you design to match your brand with your own Stripe or PayPal account behind it. Gumroad also lets you embed its payment platform on your site and use a custom domain, so where the checkout appears is not the reason to move. Plandalf Offers gives you upsells, order bumps, coupons, subscription and payment-plan prices on one plan, and Timers add deadlines that stay in step with the checkout, coupon and email. Purchase automations can send the order to your email tool, CRM or your own API. Plandalf is not a storefront marketplace, so it will not send you buyers the way Discover does.

What migrating involves

Moving a checkout is a rebuild of the offer, not an export. You recreate each product and price, rebuild the checkout in Plandalf (templates cover the common layouts, and the team will build one from a link you send), repoint your buy buttons or links, and wire the purchase events you rely on to your email and fulfilment tools. Gumroad's features page says you can export your customers and followers, so do that first. Subscriptions are the part to plan first, because a subscription stays with the processor holding the customer's card. Plandalf does not host files or issue license keys, so keep delivery in the tool that does it today. Run both checkouts side by side on one product, then cancel once the new flow has taken real orders.
