beehiiv
Use beehiiv to send readers to a Plandalf hosted checkout from a newsletter post or website page. The checkout opens as a normal link, so email clients do not need to run Plandalf JavaScript. An eligible beehiiv paid plan or trial can also render a Plandalf countdown through an HTML Snippet block.
Note. What is available Hosted checkout links and promo email images work today. Plandalf does not currently create a beehiiv subscriber after a purchase. Buyer-to-subscriber sync needs a separate, consent-aware automation.
Before you start
You need:
- a beehiiv publication you are allowed to edit;
- a published Plandalf Offer and its Test mode link;
- an eligible beehiiv plan or trial if you want to use HTML Snippet; and
- a public Plandalf checkout host before you publish a public beehiiv page or send a campaign.
The replay below was captured from a fresh beehiiv publication on 8 October 2026. It uses a local numi.test checkout and keeps the beehiiv post and custom page as drafts. Use your public checkout URL in a real campaign.
Prepare the beehiiv publication
1. Open the publication dashboard
Sign in to beehiiv and open the publication you will use. Confirm the publication name in the dashboard before changing a post or website.

Open the setup checklist from the intended publication.
- Choose Finish your settings.
2. Confirm the publication details
Open the publication settings and check the publication name, description and web address. The replay uses a separate test publication named Plandalf Builder Guide.

Keep the test publication clearly separate from any live newsletter.
- Confirm the publication name.
- Add a recognisable description.
3. Set the publication timezone
Choose the timezone used by your campaign schedule and promo deadlines. Save the setting before building the test post.

Use the same timezone as the campaign schedule and Plandalf Promo.
- Choose the publication timezone.
4. Return to the ready dashboard
Wait for beehiiv to confirm the publication setup. Open Write when the dashboard is ready.

The completion check confirms the publication setup saved.
- Confirm the setup checklist is complete.
Add a checkout link to a beehiiv post
5. Open the post list
Choose Write → Posts. Keep the first integration test separate from a real newsletter campaign.

Create the test from the post list so it remains separate from real campaigns.
- Open Posts under Write.
- Choose Start writing.
6. Start from a blank post
Choose Start writing from the post list. If beehiiv shows its first-post tutorial, choose No Thanks to enter the blank editor. A blank post makes it clear which content belongs to the checkout test.

Dismiss the optional tutorial to continue with a blank test post.
- Choose No Thanks.
7. Add the post title and instruction
Enter a test title, subtitle and one sentence that tells the reader what the button will do. The replay uses Join the Builder Guide Workshop.

Give the draft a recognisable title and explain what the checkout button will do.
- Enter the title and subtitle.
- Add a one-sentence checkout instruction.
8. Open the block menu
Place the cursor on a new line and type /. The menu includes Button under Interactive and HTML snippet under Embeds.

A slash on an empty line opens the block menu.
- Type a slash on a new line.
- Scroll this menu for more block types.
9. Insert a button
Choose Button, then select the plain button preset. Keep the button visually distinct from the post body.

The Custom preset gives you a plain button that can carry the Plandalf checkout URL.
- Choose Custom.
10. Write the button label
Replace the placeholder with a direct action such as Join the workshop or Open checkout.

Name the button for the purchase action before adding the checkout address.
- Replace the placeholder with the action label.
- Open the link field for the Plandalf checkout URL.
11. Add the Plandalf checkout URL
Select the button and paste the Offer’s Test mode link into its link field. Save the link and wait for the post status to return to Synced.

Paste the Offer's own Test mode link, then wait for the post to sync.
- Paste and save the Plandalf checkout URL here.
Do not paste the Plandalf JavaScript SDK or an iframe into an email. Email clients do not run those checkout surfaces. Use the hosted checkout link described in Hosted checkout.
12. Preview the email
Choose Preview → Email → Desktop. Check the sender, subject, preview text, post body and button. beehiiv adds its campaign tracking parameters to the checkout URL in preview.

Use the email preview to inspect the actual message layout before opening checkout.
- Preview Email in Desktop mode.
- Open the checkout from this button.
13. Open checkout from the preview
Select the button in the email preview. Confirm that the hosted checkout shows the intended Offer, line item and total.

The link reached the intended $25 offer; payment remained unavailable in this local organisation.
- This boundary identifies the missing test payment connection.
- Confirm the intended line item and total.
This replay reached Builder Guide Workshop, Workshop admission, and $25.00, then stopped at Payment Setup Required because the local Plandalf organisation has no test payment provider connected. A visible checkout is not proof of a paid invoice, receipt, fulfilment or subscriber sync.
Add the checkout to a beehiiv website page
14. Open the Website dashboard
Choose Website in the left navigation. Create a website if the publication does not already have one.

Create the publication website before adding a custom checkout page.
- Choose Create your website.
15. Choose the starting template
Select a website template. The replay uses a temporary template for the test publication.

Choose a starting template; the checkout remains a normal hosted link.
- Confirm the selected template.
- Choose Next.
16. Review the colour theme
Check the default colours and make sure the checkout call to action will have enough contrast.

Check that the primary colour keeps the checkout action readable.
- Review the primary colour and contrast.
- Choose Next.
17. Review the typography
Choose the site typography, then continue. The checkout link does not depend on the font choice.

Review the site fonts, then continue to the generated website.
- Review the heading and body font choices.
- Choose Next.
18. Review the generated website
Check the template summary before opening the website studio.

Review the generated site summary before entering the editor.
- Check the selected template, colours and typography.
- Choose Start building.
19. Open the website studio
Enter the website studio and choose Pages. Create or select the page that should hold the checkout link.

Open Pages and create a dedicated draft for the checkout link.
- Open Pages.
- Choose New.
20. Add the custom page content
Add a custom page and use a normal anchor or button linked to the Plandalf hosted checkout. The replay’s HTML includes a heading, a sentence and a single checkout link.

Use a clear path and a normal anchor that points to the public Plandalf checkout.
- Set the custom page path.
- Paste the hosted checkout URL into the anchor.
- Choose Add page.
21. Preview the page in the editor
Use the page preview to confirm the heading, instruction and button. Check that the button label describes the purchase action.

Keep the page as a draft while it points to a local test checkout.
- Confirm the page still says Draft.
- Open the private preview from this control.
22. Open the private draft preview
Open beehiiv’s private site preview and select the checkout button. The replay confirmed that the button opens the same local Plandalf test checkout. The page remains a draft because a public beehiiv page must not send visitors to a .test address.

The private preview proves the draft layout without publishing a local checkout URL.
- Check the Draft Preview banner.
- Open the checkout from the page button.
When you have a public checkout URL, replace the test URL, publish the page and repeat the click on desktop and mobile.
Add a promo countdown to the post
23. Copy the beehiiv timer code from Plandalf
In Plandalf, create or open a Promo, choose Emails, and select beehiiv. Under Email timer code, copy the generated image snippet. The generated ref uses beehiiv’s {{subscriber_id}} merge tag.

Copy the snippet generated for this Promo and beehiiv.
- Copy the complete Email timer code.
- Keep the beehiiv subscriber ID merge tag intact.
The replay generated this structure:
<img
src="https://countdown.plandalf.dev/YOUR-ORGANISATION/promo/YOUR-PROMO.gif?ref={{subscriber_id}}"
alt="Time remaining on this offer"
/>Copy the exact snippet from your Promo. Do not copy the replay’s organisation or promo values.
24. Insert an HTML Snippet block
Return to the beehiiv post, type / on a new line, and choose HTML snippet under Embeds. This block requires an eligible beehiiv paid plan or trial.

Scroll to Embeds and insert the HTML snippet block at the intended line.
- Choose HTML snippet.
25. Paste the generated HTML
Choose HTML code, paste the complete snippet from Plandalf, and wait for the draft to sync.

Paste the whole generated image tag without changing the subscriber merge tag.
- Paste the complete image tag here.
- Preserve the subscriber ID merge tag.
26. Preview the countdown block
Choose Preview on the HTML block. Confirm that the image renders and its alt text is meaningful.

Preview the block and confirm the real countdown image renders.
- Confirm the countdown image renders.
- Use Preview to return to the rendered block after edits.
27. Preview the complete email
Open the full email preview again. Check that the checkout button and countdown image appear together. The screenshot shows the generated timer rendering in beehiiv’s desktop email preview.

The final preview should show the checkout action and live countdown together.
- Preview Email in Desktop mode.
- Confirm the checkout button remains visible.
- Confirm the countdown image renders below the button.
The countdown is an image, not an interactive checkout. The same subscriber ID must be used when the person is enrolled into the Promo and when the email image is requested. beehiiv’s post HTML guide documents the HTML Snippet block and email limits.
Verify the complete journey
Before sending a real campaign:
- connect a test payment provider to the Plandalf organisation;
- create the beehiiv enrollment webhook or another supported enrollment automation;
- send a test email to a designated test subscriber;
- confirm the delivered image and tracking link resolve the same subscriber ID;
- complete a provider-backed test purchase;
- reconcile the paid provider event, Plandalf order, invoice, receipt and promised fulfilment; and
- replace every local test URL with the public checkout URL before publication.
This replay did not send an email, publish a post, publish the custom page, complete a payment, create a buyer subscriber or verify post-purchase fulfilment.
Need subscribers to sync after purchase?
A beehiiv subscriber record is not created by adding a checkout link. Buyer sync needs a separate, consent-aware connection from a Plandalf purchase event to the beehiiv API or another automation service. Do not treat the checkout link or countdown image as proof that subscriber sync is running. Tell us the workflow you need; we will confirm the available path before describing it as connected.
