Shopify + MailerLite integration

MailerLite's Shopify app covers the store. A Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page puts its own buyers in a MailerLite group with native steps.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does Shopify integrate with MailerLite?

Plandalf does not read your Shopify orders. MailerLite has its own Shopify app for that. Plandalf has native MailerLite steps, so a Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page can find or create the subscriber, add them to a group and remove them again on a full refund, without Zapier.

Add Plandalf buyers to their own MailerLite group

You need a Shopify theme you can edit, a published Plandalf offer, and a MailerLite account on the current MailerLite rather than Classic.

  1. Decide which group the buyers go to

MailerLite's Shopify article says its app syncs store customers into a chosen group in both directions, and that new subscribers in that connected group are created in Shopify. Create a separate group for Plandalf buyers, so that buyers never become Shopify customers by accident.

  2. Add the offer to the theme

Put the Plandalf SDK script before the closing body tag of theme.liquid, and add a button with data-plandalf-present on the template that should sell the offer. Check the cart path as well as the offer path.

  3. Generate a MailerLite token

In MailerLite open Integrations, find MailerLite API and click Use, then Generate new token. Name it Plandalf, leave All IPs allowed selected, and copy the token, which MailerLite shows only once.

  4. Connect MailerLite and build the sequence

In Plandalf open Automation, then Marketplace, and connect MailerLite with the token. Under My Sequences choose Plandalf and Checkout Completed for the offer.

  5. Find the subscriber, then add the group

Add MailerLite, Find or Create Subscriber with Email Address as {{trigger.customer_email}}, and run its test. Add MailerLite, Add Subscriber to Group, pick subscriber_id from that step in the variable menu rather than the email, and choose the group.

  6. Add the refund sequence and test

Add Remove access on refund for the offer and choose the group in the removal step. Switch on Run on test purchases, buy with a test card using your own email, and check the group in MailerLite.

What sellers do with Shopify and MailerLite

Workshop attendees apart from store customers

A craft shop sells supplies in the Shopify cart and workshop places as a Plandalf offer. Attendees go into a Workshop group that starts a MailerLite automation with the joining details.

Paid community beside a product line

A brand sells a members' circle as a Plandalf subscription from a product page. The group is kept current through Invoice Paid, and a full refund removes the member from it.

Limits and gotchas

  • MailerLite's Shopify article says new subscribers added to the connected group are created in Shopify. Keep Plandalf buyers in a different group unless you want that.
  • Add Subscriber to Group needs the subscriber ID from the Find or Create Subscriber step, not an email address. An email in that field gives the Failed to assign subscriber to group error.
  • Only current MailerLite is supported. MailerLite Classic accounts use a different API and will not connect.
  • MailerLite's Shopify article describes abandoned cart emails that trigger only for recognised shoppers on the store. Plandalf's Cart Abandoned trigger covers the Plandalf checkout, which is a separate thing.
  • The token works with the permissions of the MailerLite user who created it and stops working if that user is removed.

Shopify and MailerLite: common questions

Does Shopify integrate with MailerLite?
Yes, MailerLite publishes a Shopify app that syncs customers both ways and adds order counts and total spent as subscriber fields. Plandalf is not part of that sync.
How do I add Plandalf buyers to MailerLite from a Shopify page?
Open the offer from a theme button and build a sequence on Checkout Completed with Find or Create Subscriber followed by Add Subscriber to Group. The recipe above covers the settings.
Shopify MailerLite integration: will Plandalf sales count in the Shopify order fields?
No. MailerLite fills those fields from Shopify orders, and a Plandalf sale is not a Shopify order. Use a subscriber field or a group to mark Plandalf buyers.
What happens to a buyer who is refunded?
After a full refund in Stripe, a sequence on Invoice Refunded can run Remove Subscriber from Group. The person stays in your MailerLite account, only out of that group.
