Shopify + Kit (ConvertKit) integration

Kit's Shopify app syncs the store's customers. A Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page tags its own buyers in Kit and starts their emails.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does Shopify integrate with Kit (ConvertKit)?

Plandalf does not read your Shopify orders. Kit has its own Shopify app for syncing store customers. Plandalf has native Kit steps, so a Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page can tag the buyer, add them to a Kit form or sequence and untag them on a refund, without Zapier.

Tag Plandalf offer buyers in Kit next to your Shopify store sync

You need a Shopify theme you can edit, a published Plandalf offer, and a Kit account where you can create a V4 API key.

  1. Add the SDK and the button to the theme

In the Shopify theme add the Plandalf script before the closing body tag in theme.liquid. Put a data-plandalf-present button for the offer on the product template, and test the cart path before the offer.

  2. Create a V4 key in Kit

In Kit open the account menu, then Settings, then Developer, and under V4 Keys choose Add a new key. Use that V4 key, not the legacy V3 key shown on the same page.

  3. Connect Kit in Plandalf

Open Automation, then Marketplace, find Kit under Available now and click Connect. Paste the key and wait for Kit connected.

  4. Choose a tag name that cannot be confused

Kit's Shopify app names tags after the products people bought, so pick a distinct tag for the Plandalf offer, for example Priority Pass. Two tag families then stay readable in one Kit account.

  5. Build the purchase sequence

Under My Sequences choose Plandalf and Checkout Completed for the offer. Add Kit, Tag Subscriber with Email Address as {{trigger.customer_email}} and First Name as {{trigger.customer_first_name}}, then Add Subscriber to Sequence for the active onboarding sequence.

  6. Add the refund sequence and rehearse

Add Remove access on refund under Automation, then Templates, and pick the tag. Switch on Run on test purchases, buy with a test card and your own email, and check the subscriber in Kit before switching the setting off.

What sellers do with Shopify and Kit (ConvertKit)

Limited run with a paid early-access list

A maker releases a limited product through the Shopify cart and sells early-access to the next run as a Plandalf offer. Early-access buyers carry a tag, and a Kit broadcast to that tag announces the drop first.

Coaching add-on for product buyers

A store selling a kit or programme offers one-to-one coaching as a Plandalf upgrade. The coaching tag puts those buyers in a Kit sequence with scheduling details, while the product buyers follow the store's flow.

Limits and gotchas

  • Plandalf connects to Kit with an API key, so purchases do not appear in Kit's purchase history. Kit's own Shopify app is what feeds the Purchases chart, according to Kit's help.
  • Kit's help says its Shopify app tags customers who did not opt in to marketing with a Shopify: no marketing tag. Plandalf's Kit steps add the buyer as a subscriber, so make sure the Plandalf checkout and terms cover marketing email.
  • Kit allows 120 requests a minute per key. Plandalf retries a rate-limited step twice, and you can re-run it after the burst.
  • Plandalf has no subscription-cancelled trigger, so cancelling a recurring offer does not remove the Kit tag by itself.
  • Test purchases skip automations until Run on test purchases is switched on for the sequence.

Shopify and Kit (ConvertKit): common questions

Does Shopify integrate with Kit (ConvertKit)?
Yes, Kit publishes a Shopify app that syncs customers who have bought, tags them by product and feeds Kit's purchases data. Plandalf is separate: it adds a checkout beside the cart and has its own Kit steps.
How do I connect a Plandalf checkout on Shopify to Kit?
Open the offer from a theme button, connect Kit under Automation, Marketplace with a V4 key, and build a sequence on Checkout Completed with Tag Subscriber. The setup above has the details.
Will Plandalf buyers get the Shopify product tags in Kit?
No. Those tags come from Kit's own Shopify app and only for Shopify purchases. A Plandalf buyer gets the tag your sequence applies.
Is Kit the same as ConvertKit?
Yes. ConvertKit became Kit in 2024, and some guides and URLs still use the old name.
