Native integration

PayPal + MailerLite integration

A paid PayPal order on a Plandalf checkout can create the subscriber in MailerLite and add them to the group your welcome automation listens to.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does PayPal integrate with MailerLite?

Not as a direct sync. MailerLite does not read your PayPal account here. PayPal takes the payment on a Plandalf checkout, then a Plandalf sequence runs native MailerLite steps: find or create the subscriber, add them to a group, update their fields. It works with current MailerLite only, not MailerLite Classic.

What moves between PayPal and MailerLite

The PayPal docs route completion the same way as a card payment, which is why this one sequence is expected to serve both. Verify with a sandbox payment.

Refund in PayPalPayPalMailerLiteBy handRemove Subscriber from Group exists, but the Invoice Refunded trigger that normally runs it is documented for Stripe refunds. Run it from a sequence you start with a Webhook Trigger, or remove the group in MailerLite.

Put PayPal buyers in a Customers group in MailerLite

You need a PayPal Business account, a published Plandalf checkout and a MailerLite account on current MailerLite.

  1. Make PayPal available on the offer

Connect PayPal from the dashboard and enable it on the offer, keeping card payment as the fallback. Connect the PayPal sandbox environment as well, since you will rehearse with it.

  2. Generate a MailerLite token

In MailerLite open Integrations, find MailerLite API and click Use. Choose Generate new token, name it Plandalf, leave All IPs allowed and create it. The token is shown once, so copy it.

  3. Connect MailerLite in Plandalf

Go to Automation, then Marketplace, find MailerLite under Available now, click Connect and paste the token into API Key.

  4. Create the subscriber

Under My Sequences start a sequence on Plandalf, Checkout Completed, limited to your offer. Add MailerLite, Find or Create Subscriber with Email Address {{trigger.customer_email}} and Name {{trigger.customer_name}}, and run its test.

  5. Add them to the group

Add MailerLite, Add Subscriber to Group. For Subscriber ID pick subscriber_id from the previous step; do not paste an email. Choose your Customers group, which should start a MailerLite automation.

  6. Pay once with the sandbox

Complete an approved PayPal sandbox payment and look at the Events view, then the group in MailerLite. If the sequence stayed quiet, turn on Run on test purchases in its settings, repeat, and turn it off again.

What sellers do with PayPal and MailerLite

A template shop with a download automation

A designer sells Notion or Canva templates and wants every buyer, PayPal or card, in a Template buyers group. The MailerLite automation on that group sends the download link and later a cross-sell for the next pack.

A small membership with a monthly digest

A group called Members receives the monthly digest campaign. The checkout puts new members there on payment. When someone refunds through PayPal, the seller removes the group by hand so the digest stops.

Limits and gotchas

  • Only current MailerLite connects. A MailerLite Classic account uses a different API and will fail with Authentication failed.
  • A refund made in PayPal does not start Invoice Refunded, which is documented for Stripe refunds, so group membership stays until you change it.
  • Add Subscriber to Group wants the subscriber_id from Find or Create Subscriber. Pasting an email into that field makes the step fail.
  • The token works with the permissions of the MailerLite user who made it and stops working if that user is removed.
  • Fields are matched by key, so create custom fields in MailerLite first and use the key exactly.

PayPal and MailerLite: common questions

Does PayPal integrate with MailerLite?
Not directly through Plandalf. PayPal processes the payment on a Plandalf checkout, and a Plandalf sequence adds the buyer to a MailerLite group. Check MailerLite's own integrations list if you want PayPal connected without Plandalf.
How do I connect PayPal to MailerLite?
Connect PayPal to Plandalf and enable it on an offer, connect MailerLite with an API token under Automation, then build a Checkout Completed sequence with Find or Create Subscriber and Add Subscriber to Group.
MailerLite PayPal integration: does it work with Classic?
No. Plandalf's MailerLite steps need current MailerLite. Classic accounts use a different API and do not connect.
How do I give access after a PayPal payment using MailerLite groups?
Treat the group as the access list: the sequence adds the paying subscriber, and a MailerLite automation on the group delivers the content. Remove the group yourself after a PayPal refund.
