Native integration

Stripe + Kit (ConvertKit) integration

Stripe takes the payment, Plandalf runs the checkout, and Kit tags the buyer and starts their emails from the paid order.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does Stripe integrate with Kit (ConvertKit)?

Not as a direct sync between the two accounts. Plandalf sits between them: a Plandalf checkout takes payment through your connected Stripe account, and a Plandalf sequence then runs native Kit steps to tag the subscriber, add them to a form or sequence and update custom fields. A Kit event, such as a tag being added, can also start a Plandalf sequence.

What moves between Stripe and Kit (ConvertKit)

EventFrom and toThroughWhat happens
Checkout completedPlandalf (paid via Stripe)KitNative stepA paid main checkout starts the sequence. Its Kit steps create the subscriber first if Kit does not have the email, so no separate create step is needed.
Upsell acceptedPlandalf (paid via Stripe)KitNative stepA customer who pays for the post-checkout upsell can get a second tag, so Kit can tell bundle buyers from single-product buyers.
Invoice paidPlandalf (paid via Stripe)KitNative stepAlso fires on subscription renewals and invoices you send, which makes it the place to update a custom field such as plan.
Cart abandonedPlandalfKitNative stepA visitor who typed an email but did not pay can be added to a Kit form or sequence after a wait of 5 minutes to 7 days. The trigger can skip visitors from the EU, EEA and UK.
Invoice refundedStripeKitNative stepA refund that succeeds in Stripe, including one made in the Stripe dashboard, starts the Remove access on refund template, which removes the Kit tag.
Subscriber joined form, tag addedKitPlandalfNative stepPlandalf adds the webhook to your Kit account when you save the trigger. A common use is the Enroll in Promo step, which starts a countdown for anyone who joins a form.

Tag every Stripe buyer in Kit and start their emails

You need a Stripe account and a Kit account where you can create API keys.

  1. Connect Stripe and publish a checkout

In Plandalf, authorize your Stripe account (you are sent to Stripe and back, and Plandalf never sees your secret key), attach a Stripe-backed price to an offer and publish it. Money still lands in your Stripe account.

  2. Create a V4 key in Kit

In Kit open your account menu, then Settings, then Developer. Under V4 Keys choose Add a new key and name it Plandalf. Use the V4 key, not the legacy V3 key on the same page.

  3. Connect Kit

Go to Automation, then Marketplace, find Kit under Available now and click Connect. Paste the key. Plandalf checks it with Kit straight away and shows Kit connected.

  4. Start the sequence from the checkout

Create a sequence under My Sequences, choose Plandalf as the app and Checkout Completed as the trigger, and pick the checkout under Offer. On the Test tab choose a recent checkout as the sample so the variable menu fills in.

  5. Add the Kit steps

Add Kit, Tag Subscriber with Email Address set to {{trigger.customer_email}}, a tag such as Customer and First Name set to {{trigger.customer_first_name}}. Then add Kit, Add Subscriber to Sequence with the same email and your onboarding sequence, which must be active in Kit.

  6. Take the tag back on refund

Under Automation, then Templates, add Remove access on refund for the same checkout and pick your tag in the Remove Tag from Subscriber step. The trigger is Invoice Refunded with Full refunds only switched on.

  7. Rehearse with a test card

Turn on Run on test purchases in the sequence settings, buy through the checkout's test link with a Stripe test card, check the Events view and your Kit subscriber, then switch the setting off. Testing a step changes real data in Kit, so use your own email.

What sellers do with Stripe and Kit (ConvertKit)

Course buyers into onboarding

One checkout, one sequence: Checkout Completed tags the buyer Customer and drops them into the welcome sequence you built in Kit. A second sequence on the same trigger, limited to a different offer, tags buyers of a higher tier separately.

Order bump and upsell segments

Sellers who run a bump or an upsell add a second sequence on Upsell Accepted that applies an Upsell tag. In Kit that tag becomes a segment for follow-up emails about the add-on.

Waitlist to launch with a deadline

People who join a Kit form start a Plandalf sequence with Enroll in Promo, so each person gets their own countdown. When they pay, the Checkout Completed sequence tags them and Kit knows who bought.

Limits and gotchas

  • Purchases do not appear in Kit's purchase history. Kit only accepts purchase records from apps connected through its OAuth sign-in, and Plandalf connects with an API key. Record what someone bought with a tag or a custom field.
  • Plandalf has no subscription-cancelled trigger yet. A cancelled subscription does not remove the Kit tag on its own; remove it in Kit or run Remove Tag from Subscriber from a sequence you start yourself.
  • The Kit steps that add something create the buyer as a Kit subscriber if they are not one yet. Make sure your checkout and terms cover marketing email before you add buyers to a Kit sequence.
  • Test purchases skip automations by default, so a test card will not tag anyone until you switch on Run on test purchases for that sequence.
  • Kit allows 120 requests a minute per key. Plandalf retries a rate-limited step twice; after that, re-run it once the burst has passed.

Stripe and Kit (ConvertKit): common questions

Does Stripe integrate with Kit?
Not directly. Plandalf connects them: Stripe processes the payment in a Plandalf checkout, and a Plandalf sequence then tags the buyer in Kit, adds them to a form or a sequence, or updates their custom fields.
How do I connect Stripe to Kit (ConvertKit)?
Connect Stripe to Plandalf and publish a checkout, create a V4 API key in Kit and connect it under Automation, then build a sequence that starts on Checkout Completed and runs Kit's Tag Subscriber step. The setup above walks through it.
Will my Stripe sales show up in Kit as purchases?
No. Kit only takes purchase records from apps connected through OAuth, and Plandalf uses a Kit API key. Use a tag or a custom field to record what the buyer bought and segment on that.
Is Kit the same as ConvertKit?
Yes. ConvertKit renamed itself Kit in 2024. Some older guides and some Plandalf URLs still say ConvertKit, and both names point to the same Plandalf integration.
