Shopify + Flodesk integration

A Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page can end with the buyer in a Flodesk segment, through a Send Webhook step that calls Flodesk's API.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does Shopify integrate with Flodesk?

Plandalf does not read your Shopify orders and has no native Flodesk step. Flodesk has its own Shopify connection for store customers and carts. For a Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page, a sequence can write the buyer into Flodesk with Send Webhook or Zapier, using Flodesk's subscriber API.

What moves between Shopify and Flodesk

Put a Plandalf buyer from a Shopify page into a Flodesk segment

You need a Shopify theme you can edit, a published Plandalf offer, and a Flodesk account where you can create an API key.

  1. Add the offer to the Shopify theme

In the theme code editor open theme.liquid and paste the Plandalf SDK script before the closing body tag. Then put a button with data-plandalf-present set to your offer slug on the product template or landing page where the upgrade belongs.

  2. Create a Flodesk API key

Flodesk's developer docs say personal keys are managed on the API page under Account settings. The key is the username in HTTP Basic auth and the password stays empty, so you will base64-encode the key followed by a colon.

  3. Start a sequence on Checkout Completed

In Plandalf open Automation, then My Sequences, and create a sequence. Choose Plandalf and Checkout Completed, pick the offer, and on the Test tab choose a recent checkout as the sample so the variable menu fills.

  4. Add a Send Webhook step for the subscriber

Add Plandalf, Send Webhook with the POST method and the URL https://api.flodesk.com/v1/subscribers. Set the payload to carry email as {{trigger.customer_email}}, add an Authorization header of Basic followed by your encoded key, and add name fields using the names in Flodesk's subscriber reference.

  5. Add the segment or workflow step

Add a second Send Webhook that calls Flodesk's add-to-segments endpoint for the same email, or its add-subscriber-to-workflow endpoint if a Flodesk workflow should send the welcome emails. Read the body that endpoint expects in Flodesk's reference before you fill in the payload.

  6. Rehearse and build the refund sequence

Switch on Run on test purchases, buy through the test link with your own email, and check the Events view and Flodesk. Then build a separate sequence on Invoice Refunded with Full refunds only on, whose Send Webhook uses the DELETE method on the segment endpoint.

What sellers do with Shopify and Flodesk

VIP tier after a product drop

A boutique store releases a collection through the Shopify cart and sells a paid VIP tier as a Plandalf offer from the same product page. Buyers of the tier go to a VIP segment in Flodesk, which holds the emails only they receive.

Paid workshop beside a design shop

A maker who sells goods on Shopify also runs a paid workshop. The workshop is a Plandalf offer, and the sequence adds each attendee to a Flodesk workflow with the joining details.

Limits and gotchas

  • Flodesk's own Shopify connection syncs store customers and fires purchase and abandoned cart workflows from Shopify orders. A Plandalf checkout is not a Shopify order, so those Shopify triggers do not fire for Plandalf buyers.
  • Flodesk's reference gives a default limit of 100 requests a minute. A launch where many buyers pay at once may need a re-run of any step that is refused.
  • Send Webhook is a plain HTTP call that Plandalf does not sign, and your Flodesk key sits in the step's headers. Check the receiving status in the run's Events view, because Plandalf's docs say not to assume automatic retries.
  • Flodesk's workflow endpoint only re-adds a person who has finished the workflow and only when Allow repeat subscribers is on, so a repeat buyer may not restart it.
  • Adding a buyer to Flodesk creates a subscriber who may not have agreed to marketing. State the email terms on the Plandalf checkout, and check which status Flodesk gives subscribers created through its API.

Shopify and Flodesk: common questions

Does Shopify integrate with Flodesk?
Yes, through Flodesk's own Shopify connection, which syncs store customers and runs purchase and abandoned cart workflows. Plandalf is separate from it: it adds a checkout beside the Shopify cart and can send those buyers to Flodesk by Send Webhook.
How do I connect a Shopify page to Flodesk with Plandalf?
Load the Plandalf SDK in the theme, open an offer from a button, and build a sequence on Checkout Completed whose Send Webhook step calls Flodesk's subscriber API. The setup above covers each step.
Will Plandalf buyers show up as Shopify customers in Flodesk?
No. They are paid through your Stripe or PayPal account in a Plandalf checkout, so Shopify has no order for them. They reach Flodesk only through the Send Webhook step you build.
Is there a Plandalf Flodesk app?
No. Plandalf has no native Flodesk steps or triggers, which is why this route uses Send Webhook or Zapier's generic Webhooks.
