PayPal + Shopify integration

A Plandalf offer sits beside the Shopify cart. PayPal on that offer is set in Plandalf, not in Shopify.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does PayPal integrate with Shopify?

Plandalf does not change how Shopify takes PayPal at its own checkout. It adds a separate Plandalf offer, opened from a button in your theme, and PayPal is a payment option on that offer once you connect a PayPal Business account in Plandalf. The Shopify cart and the Plandalf checkout stay two paths.

Add a PayPal-enabled VIP upgrade next to a Shopify product

You need edit access to the Shopify theme, a published Plandalf offer, and a connected PayPal Business account.

  1. Pick what sits outside the cart

Choose a paid upgrade, a booking or a digital extra that should not go through the Shopify cart. Create it as a Plandalf offer and add PayPal as a payment option.

  2. Load the SDK in the theme

Paste the Plandalf script before </body> in theme.liquid, or through a managed script area. Use your organization's own host.

  3. Place the button

On the product template or campaign section add a button with data-plandalf-present set to the offer slug. Label it so the buyer knows it is a separate purchase.

  4. Test on the live theme

Confirm the normal Shopify path still works, then open the Plandalf offer. Complete a PayPal sandbox payment and abandon a second one at PayPal to check the invoice state.

  5. Write the handoff

If a buyer should also complete the Shopify cart, say so in the page copy and in your fulfilment notes. Do not hide a second checkout behind an add-to-cart action.

What sellers do with PayPal and Shopify

Launch-day VIP upgrade

A brand launching a product on Shopify sells a signed-edition upgrade through Plandalf. Buyers who prefer PayPal pay there, and the main product stays in the cart.

Service sold beside a catalog

A store that also offers installation or a consult sells it as a Plandalf offer from a theme section, keeping bookings out of the product catalog.

Limits and gotchas

  • Shopify owns the catalog and cart. Plandalf's PayPal option applies only to Plandalf offers, so do not describe it as PayPal at Shopify checkout.
  • Plandalf writes nothing back to Shopify orders, inventory or customers. Reconcile Plandalf invoices separately.
  • Mixing carts by accident confuses buyers. The Shopify guide asks you to make the handoff explicit in copy and fulfilment.
  • A PayPal refund does not start Invoice Refunded, so access or fulfilment for the Plandalf offer must be undone manually.

PayPal and Shopify: common questions

Does Shopify integrate with PayPal through Plandalf?
Not at Shopify's checkout. Plandalf adds its own offer beside the cart, and PayPal is a payment option on that offer.
How do I add a Plandalf PayPal checkout to Shopify?
Connect PayPal in Plandalf, add it to your offer, put the SDK script in theme.liquid and add a button with data-plandalf-present.
Will Plandalf PayPal sales appear as Shopify orders?
No. The guide describes the offer as running outside the native cart, with invoices in Plandalf. Use Send Webhook if another tool needs to know.
Can I use PayPal on both the Shopify cart and a Plandalf offer?
They are configured separately. Shopify's payment methods are managed in Shopify, and the Plandalf offer's methods are managed in Plandalf.
