Native integration

PayPal + Drip integration

A PayPal order on a Plandalf checkout can add the buyer to Drip, tag them and record a purchase event that starts a Drip workflow.

No credit card required. No coding required.

Does PayPal integrate with Drip?

Plandalf connects them through a checkout. PayPal takes the payment, then a Plandalf sequence runs native Drip steps: create or update the subscriber, apply a tag, record a custom event. Drip may offer its own PayPal option in its integration settings; check that list, because it is separate from this route. PayPal refunds do not remove the tag automatically.

What moves between PayPal and Drip

EventFrom and toThroughWhat happens
Checkout completedPlandalf (paid via PayPal)DripNative stepApply Tag creates the subscriber if Drip does not have them, and any new tag. The PayPal docs give PayPal the same completion path as cards, so one sequence is meant to serve both; confirm with a sandbox payment.
Invoice paidPlandalf (paid via PayPal)DripNative stepRecord Event sends a custom event with value set to {{trigger.total}}, which the docs say is already in cents. Add {{trigger.currency}} as a second property, since PayPal buyers may pay in other currencies and the value carries none.
Tag appliedDripPlandalfNative stepPlandalf adds the webhook in Drip when you save the trigger. A tag applied to a lead can start Enroll in Promo, giving each lead a deadline before they pay with PayPal.
Refund in PayPalPayPalDripBy handRemove Tag runs after Invoice Refunded in the Plandalf template, and that trigger is documented for Stripe refunds. Remove the tag in Drip yourself after a PayPal refund, or from a sequence you start with a Webhook Trigger.

Start a Drip workflow when a PayPal order is paid

You need a Drip user who can open User Settings and Account settings, and a Plandalf checkout with PayPal enabled.

  1. Enable PayPal on the offer

Connect PayPal in Plandalf and switch it on for the offer, leaving card payment available. Connect the sandbox environment for the rehearsal.

  2. Collect the Drip credentials

In Drip open Settings, then User Settings, and copy the API Token from the User Info tab. Then open Settings, Account, and copy the Account ID under General Info, a number of about seven digits.

  3. Connect Drip

Go to Automation, Marketplace, Drip, Connect. Paste the API Token and the Account ID and wait for Drip connected.

  4. Tag the buyer

Make a sequence on Plandalf, Checkout Completed, for the offer. Add Drip, Apply Tag with Email Address {{trigger.customer_email}} and a tag such as Workshop 2027.

  5. Record the purchase

Add Drip, Record Event with Event Name Bought workshop seat. Add Event Properties product as {{trigger.line_items_summary}}, value as {{trigger.total}} and currency as {{trigger.currency}}. In Drip start a workflow from that exact custom event.

  6. Rehearse, then handle refunds by hand

Approve a PayPal sandbox payment and read the Events view, then the subscriber in Drip. Testing a step changes the real subscriber, so use your own email. After a PayPal refund, remove the tag yourself.

What sellers do with PayPal and Drip

A paid workshop with seat reminders

Buyers of a seat, by PayPal or card, get the Workshop tag, and the Drip workflow sends the joining link and two reminders. The value property puts the revenue on the event in Drip.

A membership site with a welcome series

New members are tagged on payment and a workflow sends five welcome emails. Because the event also carries the currency, the seller can see which members paid in which currency.

Limits and gotchas

  • Purchases are sent as custom events, not Drip orders. Plandalf does not use Drip's ecommerce order API, so there are no Drip order or product records.
  • Drip matches workflow triggers on the exact event name, so spell it the same in both places.
  • Invoice Refunded is documented for refunds that succeed in Stripe. A PayPal refund leaves the tag, so the workflow audience stays unchanged.
  • Drip allows 3,600 requests an hour per account and refuses two changes to one subscriber at once. Plandalf retries twice.
  • Generating a new Drip API token stops the old one, so update the connection under My apps.

PayPal and Drip: common questions

Does PayPal integrate with Drip?
Through Plandalf, yes: PayPal takes the payment on a Plandalf checkout and a sequence tags the buyer in Drip. Drip may also list a PayPal option in its own integration settings, which is a separate route to check.
How do I connect PayPal to Drip?
Enable PayPal on a Plandalf offer, connect Drip with an API token and account ID under Automation, then build a Checkout Completed sequence with Apply Tag and Record Event.
How do I add PayPal buyers to Drip?
The Apply Tag and Create or Update Subscriber steps add the buyer by email, creating the subscriber if needed. A sandbox PayPal payment proves it.
Does the Drip revenue value work for PayPal sales?
The value property takes the order total in cents. It has no currency field, so add the currency as another event property when you sell in more than one.
