Paid workshop announced to subscribers
A creator emails the list about a live workshop. The button goes to a Plandalf checkout where some readers pay by card and others choose PayPal, with no beehiiv paid tier involved.

Used side by side
Readers click from a beehiiv post to a Plandalf checkout and can pay with PayPal. Subscriber sync is not built in.
No credit card required. No coding required.
PayPal
beehiivPlandalf has no native beehiiv subscriber or buyer sync, and it does not connect PayPal to beehiiv. What works today is a link or button in a beehiiv post that opens a Plandalf hosted checkout, where PayPal is a payment option. Adding the buyer to beehiiv needs a separate automation, such as Send Webhook to beehiiv's API.
| Event | From and to | Through | What happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reader clicks to buy | beehiiv → Plandalf | By hand | A button or link in a post or website page points at the offer's hosted checkout URL. It is a normal link, so email clients need no Plandalf JavaScript. |
| Payment | Plandalf → PayPal | Payment connection | PayPal appears in the checkout only for offers where you added it as a payment option. The money goes to the PayPal Business account you connected. |
| Checkout completed | Plandalf (paid via PayPal) → beehiiv | Webhook | No built-in step creates a beehiiv subscriber. A sequence can call beehiiv's create-subscription endpoint with Send Webhook, using the buyer's {{trigger.customer_email}}. |
| Promo countdown in a post | Plandalf → beehiiv | On an eligible beehiiv plan, an HTML Snippet block can show a Plandalf countdown image generated under Promos, Emails. | |
| Refund | PayPal → Plandalf | By hand | A refund made in PayPal does not start Invoice Refunded, which is documented for Stripe refunds. Remove a buyer from paid content yourself. |
This uses the hosted checkout link for the sale and an optional webhook for the subscriber. The webhook part is your own build; Plandalf has no beehiiv step.
Authorize your PayPal Business account in Plandalf, add PayPal to the offer, and publish it. Copy the offer's Test mode link for the first run.
In the beehiiv editor, type / on an empty line and choose Button. Point it at the hosted checkout URL. Preview the email before you send anything.
Open the test link from the draft, choose PayPal and approve a sandbox payment. Also cancel at PayPal and return to confirm the invoice stays unpaid.
Under Automation, My Sequences, start a sequence on Checkout Completed for this offer. Add Send Webhook with the method POST, the URL for beehiiv's create-subscription endpoint for your publication, and an Authorization: Bearer header holding your beehiiv API key.
Set the JSON Payload to carry email as {{trigger.customer_email}}. beehiiv requires only the email; leave its welcome email and reactivation flags at their defaults unless the buyer agreed to your newsletter.
Switch on Run on test purchases for the sequence, pay in the sandbox, then check the Events view for the webhook reply and your beehiiv subscriber list. Switch the setting off afterwards.

A newsletter writer sells a template pack from a post and watches paid invoices in Plandalf. Only buyers who agreed to your newsletter should be sent on to beehiiv by the webhook.
