Onboarding for a product-led SaaS
A software team starts a lifecycle campaign on the purchase event, so a buyer who just upgraded gets a different series than a trial user.
Native on one side, webhook on the other
A Stripe-paid Plandalf checkout can start a webhook-triggered automation in Customer.io, which turns the sale into an event on the person.
No credit card required. No coding required.
Customer.ioPlandalf has no Customer.io steps and does not sync Stripe customers into it. Customer.io documents its own Stripe sync through a Stripe webhook. For Plandalf sales, a Send Webhook step can post JSON to a Customer.io webhook-triggered automation, and a Customer.io campaign can post back to a Plandalf catch URL.
| Event | From and to | Through | What happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Checkout completed | Plandalf (paid via Stripe) → Customer.io | Webhook | Send Webhook posts the buyer's email, offer and totals to the Webhook URL of a Customer.io automation. Its Send Event action turns that JSON into an event on the matching person. |
| Upsell accepted | Plandalf (paid via Stripe) → Customer.io | Webhook | A second sequence on Upsell Accepted posts to the same automation with a different event name, so campaigns can tell the add-on buyers apart. |
| Campaign HTTP Request | Customer.io → Plandalf | Webhook | A campaign's HTTP Request action posts a JSON body with the person's email to a Plandalf catch URL, which can start Enroll in Promo for that person. |
| Stripe customer created | Stripe → Customer.io | By hand | Customer.io's own guide sets up a Stripe webhook for customer.created that finds a person by email and sets their ID to the Stripe customer ID. No Plandalf step is involved. |
You need a published Plandalf checkout on Stripe and a Customer.io workspace where you can create automations.
In Customer.io go to Automations, create one and choose Webhook as the trigger. Copy the Webhook URL it generates.
In Plandalf open Automation, then My Sequences, and create a sequence with Plandalf as the app and Checkout Completed as the trigger. Choose your offer and pick a recent checkout as the sample on the Test tab.
Choose Plandalf, Send Webhook, POST, and paste the Customer.io URL. In the JSON payload send email as {{trigger.customer_email}}, offer as {{trigger.line_items_summary}} and total as {{trigger.total_amount}}.
Run the Plandalf step test so Customer.io receives real sample data, which lets you pick fields in the automation builder.
Add a Send Event action that identifies the person by the incoming email, names the event, and fills its data from the trigger fields. Build your messaging campaign on that event, because a webhook automation cannot email anyone itself.
Switch on Run on test purchases in the Plandalf sequence, buy with a Stripe test card, then check the Events view and the person in Customer.io. Turn the setting off afterwards.

A Plandalf Cart Recovery sequence sends the retry_url to Customer.io, and its campaign sends a reminder with the payment link.
A Customer.io campaign for people entering a segment posts them to a Plandalf catch URL, so each person's countdown starts on entry.
