## Does WordPress integrate with Mailchimp?

WordPress hosts the page and Mailchimp holds the audience; Plandalf sits between them. A Plandalf button in a Custom HTML block opens a checkout, and a Plandalf sequence then runs native Mailchimp steps to add the buyer, tag them and record an event. A Mailchimp signup form on the same page can also start a Plandalf sequence.

The SDK script and a button with `data-plandalf-present` go in a Custom HTML block or the theme. WordPress does not take the payment: your Stripe or PayPal account does.

Add Tags to Contact puts the tag on the buyer and adds them to the audience first when they are new. Add or Update Contact can also fill merge fields that already exist in the audience.

Record Event sends a custom event with a name such as `course_enrolled`. A Mailchimp Customer Journey that starts on that event name sends the right emails.

Native step

A visitor who joins the audience through a form on your WordPress page can start a sequence that runs Enroll in Promo, so each person gets their own countdown.

Remove Tags from Contact takes the tag back after a full refund. If the email is not in the audience, the step is skipped.

## Tag a Plandalf buyer in Mailchimp from a WordPress page

You need a WordPress login that can publish pages and insert JavaScript, a published Plandalf offer and a Mailchimp account with an audience.

1. ### Add the button to a WordPress page

Add a Custom HTML block, or paste into the page Code editor, with the Plandalf SDK script and a button that has `data-plandalf-present` set to your offer slug. Save the draft and check that WordPress did not strip the script.

2. ### Check the published page

Open the live page signed out and click the button. Plandalf's WordPress guide warns that caching and optimisation plugins can move or delay scripts, so test the real output and not only the editor preview.

3. ### Create a Mailchimp API key

In Mailchimp open your profile menu, then Extras, then API keys, and choose Create A Key. Copy every character, including the data centre part such as `-us21`.

4. ### Connect Mailchimp

In Plandalf go to Automation, then Marketplace, click Connect on Mailchimp, and paste the key into API Key. Wait for Mailchimp connected.

5. ### Build the sequence

Under My Sequences use Plandalf and Checkout Completed with your offer. Add Mailchimp, Add Tags to Contact, pick the audience and set Email Address to `{{trigger.customer_email}}`. Then add Record Event with the name your Customer Journey starts from.

6. ### Test, then add the refund template

Switch on Run on test purchases, buy with a test card and your own email, and confirm the tag in the audience. Add Remove access on refund under Templates, pick the same audience and tag, and switch the test setting off.

## What sellers do with WordPress and Mailchimp

### Course launch from a blog post

A teacher publishes a long post on a WordPress blog with a Buy button at the end. Buyers are tagged with the course name, and a journey starting on the event sends week-by-week lessons.

### Newsletter list plus a paid tier

A site collects free subscribers with a Mailchimp form and sells a paid tier through Plandalf on the same page. A sequence on Contact Subscribed starts a countdown, and a paid tier buyer gets a Paid tag.

## Limits and gotchas

- Mailchimp's help says signup forms on WordPress.com need a paid Business or eCommerce plan, and Plandalf's WordPress guide says to confirm that your plan lets you insert JavaScript. Check both before building the page.
- Plandalf sends purchases to Mailchimp as events and tags and not as ecommerce orders, and Mailchimp events carry no revenue.
- Mailchimp recommends pasting its embedded form into a post or page, because headers, footers and sidebars may not support the code. Put the Plandalf button in the page body too if you place both together.
- Plandalf's MemberPress plugin is an early-access source release and not a general WordPress membership connection, so do not build a paid-access flow on it yet.
- Merge fields have to exist in the audience before a step fills them. Mailchimp does not create one the first time a value is sent.

## WordPress and Mailchimp: common questions

Does WordPress integrate with Mailchimp?

Yes, Mailchimp documents ways to add its signup forms to WordPress, by plugin or by embed code. Plandalf is separate: it adds a checkout button to the page and tags buyers in your audience.

How do I connect Mailchimp to a WordPress checkout page?

Put the Plandalf SDK and button in a Custom HTML block, connect Mailchimp under Automation, Marketplace with an API key, and build a sequence on Checkout Completed with Add Tags to Contact.

WordPress Mailchimp integration: will a paid sale subscribe the buyer?

New contacts get the status you choose in Status for New Contacts, which is Subscribed by default and can be Pending for double opt-in. Existing contacts keep the status they have.

Can a Mailchimp form on my WordPress page start a countdown?

Yes. The Contact Subscribed trigger starts a sequence when someone joins the audience, and the Enroll in Promo step starts that person's timer.
