Plandalf connects them with native Tolt steps, but only for first sales. Stripe takes the payment in a Plandalf checkout, and a sequence on Invoice Paid registers the customer with the referring partner and records the sale in Tolt. Renewals without the original referral details are skipped, and there is no refund step. ## What moves between Stripe and Tolt Event From and to Through What happens Referral click ToltPlandalf Checkout embed Tolt's script on your site knows the affiliate. A plandalf configure snippet saves `tolt_click_id`, `tolt_partner_id` and `tolt_program_id` on the checkout when it opens, on every page that opens one. With no partner ID on the checkout the step is skipped because there is nobody to credit. Tolt ignores a transaction it already has, so re-running the step is safe. Reverse the commission in Tolt itself. ## Record Stripe sales in Tolt for referred buyers You need Tolt with an affiliate program and its tracking script on your site, and Plandalf products linked to Stripe products. 1. ### Link the products to Stripe Tolt needs a Stripe product ID (`prod_` followed by letters and numbers) for each item it records. Connect Stripe in Plandalf and make sure every product on the checkout is linked to its Stripe product, or the transaction step will report a missing ID. 2. ### Get the Tolt API key and program ID In Tolt open Settings, then Integrations, and create an API key. Use the secret key, not the public `pk_` key from your website script. Copy the Program ID, which starts with `prg_`, from your program's address bar. 3. ### Connect Tolt In Plandalf go to Automation, then Marketplace, and click Connect on Tolt. Paste the API Key and Program ID, and add Own partner id if your own newsletter links go through a partner. Tolt cannot check a key in advance, so a wrong key only shows up when the first step runs. 4. ### Pass the referral IDs into checkout Load Tolt's script and the Plandalf SDK, then add the plandalf configure snippet with the three `tolt_` properties on every page that opens checkout. The sequence reads them as `{{trigger.session_properties.tolt_click_id}}` and `{{trigger.session_properties.tolt_partner_id}}`. 5. ### Add the paid-invoice sequence Under Automation, then Templates, use Record Tolt referral commission and pick your checkout, or build it with Plandalf and Invoice Paid. Tolt, Find or Create Customer takes `{{trigger.customer_email}}`, `{{trigger.stripe_customer_id}}`, the partner and click IDs. Then Create Transactions From Invoice takes `{{trigger.invoice_id}}` and the `id` output of the customer step. 6. ### Test with a real referral link Open a Tolt referral link in a private window, pay with a Stripe test card through the checkout, and check the sale and the partner in Tolt. Run on test purchases must be on for a test card to run the sequence, and the Tolt steps write to the account on your connection, so use a test partner. ## What sellers do with Stripe and Tolt ### Software founders with a partner program The product page runs Tolt and the pricing page opens a Plandalf checkout. Each referred first purchase appears in Tolt with the plan's Stripe product, so the affiliate is credited on the right item. ### Creators with a bundle checkout A checkout selling a course and a template pack records one Tolt transaction for each item. The affiliate's commission rules in Tolt then apply per product rather than to one lump sum. ### Moving an existing Tolt program to a new checkout Keep Tolt as the system of record for partners and payouts while changing where people pay. Only the checkout changes, and the sequence reports the paid invoice back to Tolt. ## Limits and gotchas - Only first sales are recorded. Every transaction goes to Tolt as a one-time payment, renewals without the original referral details are skipped, and no refund step exists, so handle renewals and refunds in Tolt. - The Tolt steps need products linked to Stripe products. A product without a `prod_` ID stops the transaction step. - If Tolt also reads payments through its own Stripe connection, choose one route per checkout or the same sale can be credited twice. - Create Transactions From Invoice only exists with the Invoice Paid trigger, and it needs Tolt's own customer ID, the `id` output of Find or Create Customer, not the trigger's customer ID. - Without the configure snippet on the page that opens checkout, nothing reaches the sequence and both Tolt steps are skipped. A visitor who did not come through an affiliate link is skipped on purpose. - Sequences added from the Record Tolt referral commission template before 14 October 2026 may have empty fields, so check an older one against the current steps. ## Stripe and Tolt: common questions Does Stripe integrate with Tolt? Tolt has its own Stripe connection, and Plandalf offers a second route: Stripe takes the payment in a Plandalf checkout and a Plandalf sequence reports the paid invoice to Tolt. Pick one route per checkout so a sale is not credited twice. How do I connect Stripe sales to Tolt through Plandalf? Link your products to Stripe products, connect Tolt with its secret API key and Program ID, add the configure snippet that carries Tolt's referral IDs into checkout, and run Find or Create Customer then Create Transactions From Invoice on Invoice Paid. Does a Stripe refund reverse the commission in Tolt? Not through Plandalf. There is no Tolt refund step, so reverse the commission in Tolt. Renewals are in the same position, since Plandalf records first sales only. Why was my Tolt step skipped? Find or Create Customer skips when no partner ID reached the checkout, and Create Transactions From Invoice skips when there is no click ID.
