# Stripe + Shopify integration

A button in your Shopify theme opens a Plandalf checkout that charges through your own Stripe account, while Shopify keeps its cart and catalog.

## Does Stripe integrate with Shopify?

Not as a Shopify payment gateway. Plandalf does not replace Shopify's cart or checkout. Your theme loads the Plandalf script, a button opens a separate Plandalf offer, and that offer takes payment through the Stripe account you connected in Plandalf. Shopify orders and Plandalf invoices stay in two places.

The theme loads the organization SDK, and an element carrying `data-plandalf-present` opens the offer in a frame on the Shopify page. The Shopify cart is not involved.

The charge runs in the Stripe account you authorized in Plandalf. That account is the processor of record, and Plandalf is not the merchant of record.

By hand

A paid Plandalf checkout does not create a Shopify order. Fulfilment of the upgrade or service is yours to set up, for example with a sequence that posts to a URL you choose using Send Webhook.

Which provider Shopify's own checkout uses depends on how the store's payments are set up, and Plandalf does not touch it.

## Sell a paid upgrade from a Shopify product page

You need a Plandalf offer with a Stripe-backed price and edit access to the Shopify theme code.

1. ### Connect Stripe in Plandalf

In the Plandalf dashboard open the Stripe integration and authorize the Stripe account that should receive the money. Attach a Stripe-backed price to the offer, then publish it.

2. ### Copy the SDK script

Take your organization's script tag from the offer's share code. It looks like `<script src='https://YOUR-HOST/js/plandalf-sdk.js' async></script>` with your own host.

3. ### Add the script to the theme

Paste the script before the closing `body` tag in `theme.liquid`, or in whatever managed script area your theme provides. Load it once for the whole store.

4. ### Place the button on the right template

On the product template, landing page or blog post, add a button with `data-plandalf-present` set to the offer slug. Word the label as a separate purchase, such as Add VIP upgrade.

5. ### Test both paths

Confirm the ordinary Shopify add-to-cart path still works, then open the offer from the published page. Check in Plandalf that the Stripe test connection is the one in use before paying with a Stripe test card, because a test label alone does not prove it.

6. ### Follow up the sale

Under Automation, My Sequences, start a sequence on Checkout Completed for this offer and add Send Order Receipt, or Send Webhook to your fulfilment tool.

## What sellers do with Stripe and Shopify

### VIP upgrade beside a product launch

A store launching a product sells a paid early-access tier through a Plandalf offer on the same page. The launch product stays in the normal Shopify cart.

### Services and bookings outside the catalog

A shop that also sells installation, a consultation or an event seat links that item to a Plandalf checkout, so Shopify's product catalog does not need a variant for it.

### Deadline promo on a campaign page

A seasonal landing page pairs a Plandalf countdown with `data-plandalf-apply-promo` on the buy button, so the price tier follows the promo's deadline.

## Limits and gotchas

- Plandalf does not replace Shopify's cart or catalog. If a buyer needs both, make the handoff plain in the page copy and do not hide a second checkout behind a normal add-to-cart button.
- A paid Plandalf checkout creates a Plandalf invoice and a Stripe payment, not a Shopify order. Inventory, shipping and Shopify reports will not include it.
- Which payment providers Shopify's own checkout offers depends on where your store is located, so check Settings, Payments in your admin. The Stripe account in Plandalf is connected separately and need not match it.
- The attribute `data-plandalf-mode` set to test requests test mode, but is not proof that a Stripe test account is connected. Check the connection before you attempt a payment.
- There is no Plandalf subscription-cancelled trigger, so cancelling a recurring upgrade does not remove access by itself.

## Stripe and Shopify: common questions

Does Stripe integrate with Shopify?

Not through Plandalf. Plandalf sits beside Shopify: it opens its own Stripe-backed checkout from a button in your theme and leaves Shopify's cart alone. Check Shopify's payment settings for how the native checkout takes payment in your country.

How do I add a Stripe checkout to Shopify?

Connect Stripe to Plandalf, publish an offer, load the Plandalf script in `theme.liquid` and put a button with `data-plandalf-present` on the page. The checkout then charges your Stripe account.

Will a Plandalf sale show up as a Shopify order?

No. The sale lives in Plandalf as an invoice and in Stripe as a payment. Shopify only sees the page where the button sits.

Can I use a Plandalf checkout instead of the Shopify cart?

Plandalf is built for offers outside the cart, such as upgrades and campaigns, not for replacing the cart. Keep the catalog in Shopify and sell the adjacent item in Plandalf.
