ActiveCampaign has its own Shopify integration for the store. For a Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page, a sequence can create and tag the buyer as an ActiveCampaign contact through Send Webhook or Zapier. ## What moves between Shopify and ActiveCampaign Event From and to Through What happens Offer opened from a Shopify page ShopifyPlandalf Checkout embed The SDK script sits in the theme and a button opens the offer by its slug. Payment runs through your Stripe or PayPal account. Checkout completed Plandalf (paid via Stripe)ActiveCampaign Webhook Send Webhook POSTs to ActiveCampaign's contact sync endpoint. Its reference says the call finds the contact by email and updates it (200) or creates it (201), and the body can carry first name, custom field values and tags in one request. Upsell accepted Plandalf (paid via Stripe)ActiveCampaign Webhook The same endpoint can be called again with a different tag, so an automation in ActiveCampaign can start only for people who accepted the upsell. Cart abandoned PlandalfActiveCampaign Webhook A visitor who typed an email but did not pay at the Plandalf checkout can be synced with an abandoned tag after a wait of 5 minutes to 7 days. The trigger can skip EU, EEA and UK visitors. Invoice refunded StripeActiveCampaign Webhook A sequence on Invoice Refunded can send the refund to ActiveCampaign. Taking a tag off a contact is a separate ActiveCampaign endpoint, so read its reference before building that step. ## Create and tag an ActiveCampaign contact from a Plandalf checkout You need a Shopify theme you can edit, a published Plandalf offer and your ActiveCampaign API key and account URL. 1. ### Add the offer to the theme Open the Shopify theme code and add the Plandalf SDK script before the closing `body` tag of `theme.liquid`. Add a button with `data-plandalf-present` on the template where the offer belongs, and make the handoff clear in the page copy. 2. ### Collect the ActiveCampaign details ActiveCampaign's reference shows the contact sync call as a POST to your account's own host under `/api/3/contact/sync`, with your API key in an `Api-Token` header. Copy your account's API URL and key from ActiveCampaign. 3. ### Create the sequence In Plandalf open Automation, then My Sequences, and start a sequence on Plandalf, Checkout Completed, limited to the offer. Choose a recent checkout as the sample on the Test tab. 4. ### Add Send Webhook to sync the contact Add Plandalf, Send Webhook with POST and your account's sync URL. Add the Api-Token header. Build a payload with a contact object holding `email` as `{{trigger.customer_email}}`, `firstName` as `{{trigger.customer_first_name}}` and a tags list. 5. ### Start the ActiveCampaign automation In ActiveCampaign create an automation that starts when that tag is added, and put the welcome or onboarding emails in it. The tag is the hand-off between the two tools. 6. ### Test with your own email Switch on Run on test purchases, buy through the test link, and look at the run's Events view for the response code. A 201 means ActiveCampaign created the contact and a 200 means it found one. Switch the setting off afterwards. ## What sellers do with Shopify and ActiveCampaign ### Consultancy upsell inside a store A Shopify store that sells equipment adds a paid setup call as a Plandalf offer. The buyer is synced into ActiveCampaign with a Setup Call tag, and a deal or follow-up task in ActiveCampaign starts from it. ### Wholesale application fee A supplier charges a one-off fee to open a trade account. The fee is a Plandalf offer opened from a Shopify page, and the paid applicant is created in ActiveCampaign with a Trade Applicant tag for the sales team's pipeline. ## Limits and gotchas - Plandalf has no ActiveCampaign steps. The sync call is a Send Webhook you configure, which Plandalf does not sign, and the API key sits in the step's headers. - The sync endpoint needs the add-contacts permission to create and the edit-contacts permission to update, per ActiveCampaign's reference. A key without them gets a 403. - Your ActiveCampaign host name is specific to the account, so the URL cannot be copied from another setup. - ActiveCampaign's own Shopify integration is where store orders, carts and customers come from. A Plandalf sale is not a Shopify order and will not appear in it. - Plandalf waits up to 30 seconds for a reply and its docs say not to assume automatic retries or exactly-once delivery, so check the step result for each paid order at first. ## Shopify and ActiveCampaign: common questions Does Shopify integrate with ActiveCampaign? Yes, ActiveCampaign publishes a Shopify integration of its own, and its page mentions abandoned cart automations and a Buy Now button for landing pages. Plandalf is a separate checkout that sits beside it. How do I connect ActiveCampaign to a Plandalf checkout on Shopify? Build a sequence on Checkout Completed with a Send Webhook step that calls ActiveCampaign's contact sync endpoint. The recipe above lists the header and payload fields. Does Plandalf send my Shopify orders to ActiveCampaign? No. Plandalf does not read Shopify orders at all. It only passes on buyers of the offers that are paid through Plandalf. Can I use Zapier instead of Send Webhook? Possibly. Plandalf publishes no Zapier app, but Send Webhook can post to a Zapier webhook and you build the rest of the Zap there.
